Sevilla
Famous for its unique atmosphere and the hospitality of its inhabitants, Seville embodies the spirit of Andalusian culture. The influence of different cultures, combined with the fact that its port was a gateway to and from America and one of the most important ports during the 16th century, has shaped its open character.
Centuries of history have made Seville a city with a strong personality, boasting one of the largest and best-preserved historic centres in Europe, as well as an important and beautiful artistic heritage. It has several World Heritage monuments: the Cathedral, the largest Gothic temple in Christendom; the Reales Alcázares, a jewel of Mudejar architecture; and the General Archive of the Indies, home to documents relating to the discovery and conquest of the New World.
Seville is, on the one hand, a quiet city, ideal for strolling through its beautiful streets, gardens and parks; perfect for enjoying universal monuments, the coolness of its ancient river and its banks.
On the other hand, Seville is a festive city, with celebrations that reveal the Sevillian character, such as the April Fair and Holy Week. Seville is the capital of flamenco, with the Biennial de Flamenco. In our city, you can sample our delicious cuisine and enjoy tapas on the numerous terraces, bars and open-air restaurants, thanks to its magnificent climate. Seville also offers a wide variety of recreational and cultural activities.
Our city is home to three universities: the University of Seville, the Pablo de Olavide University and the International University of Andalusia. Seville is a city open to the past, alive in the present and ready for the future, a place of encounter, tolerance and coexistence. All these attractions make Seville a first-class tourist destination for studying Spanish.
